Profile
Ever since I was a small child painting has been instrumental in my life, at the age of 8 I entered a collage in the Welsh Urdd Eisteddfod and won third. Winning a further two Eisteddfod competitions in in my teens I pursued my love of art through my studies to degree level, in Swansea and Carmarthen. Upon Leaving my Degree I focused on my Graphic design career and started work at the South Wales Evening Post. Having focused on my Graphics I continued painting and exhibited in the Chelsea cafe restaurant
in Sep 2000. Feeling that I needed to spread my wings I made the decision to travel around the World. Travelling had a profound effect on me, in addition to meeting so many different people of different countries and cultures, I saw the most breathtaking landscapes in California, Arizona, New Zealand, East, West, and Middle Australia. All the time I was travelling I endeavoured to visit every art, craft shop and g allery from the very commercial tourist areas of Old Town San Diego to the big City museums and art galleries of San Francisco, Auckland, Sydney.. to name just a few.
Upon my return a drive down to the Mumbles was a priority, the iconic mumbles head which has been painted and photographed so many times is a view I had missed very much on my travels and had come to mean home for me. I was compelled to paint the beauty of the Gower and Pembrokeshire coast and set about rooting myself to Swansea, Buying a derelict house and renovating it, and becoming a qualified teacher of art.
In 2005 I decided to leave my job as a Graphic Designer in Bristol, to set up a studio in Swansea to make art my new career. Using mainly Oils and Acrylic, my home is my main influence while I still seek out new corners of Wales and England that are new to me armed with my sketchbook and my camera I constantly seek inspiration and reference for my paintings in which I try to capture my environment in a dramatic and atmospheric way.
